Sustainability & Environmental Policy –  Updated August 2024
1.0 Purpose

1.1 To provide a vision and a set of principles to guide the actions of our organisation, Jolly Billboards, to support sustainable practices and improve our environmental performance to reduce our ecological footprint.

2.0 Scope

2.1 Jolly Billboards offices (2)  and billboard operations across New Zealand.

3.0 Framework

3.1 We consider sustainability to be a balanced, long-term approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility, and social progress supported by sound corporate governance.

3.2 We will conform to all sustainability-related legislation and regulations applicable to our business operations.

3.3 We shall continuously improve our sustainability performance to reach our environmental goals.

3.4 We shall use this policy to systematically measure and manage our sustainability issues to develop and maintain our: policy statements and objectives; key performance indicators; management plans and procedures.

3.5 We engage with our stakeholders internally (including our team and board) and externally (including our customers, suppliers, partners, government departments, NGOs, charities, and media) to identify and prioritise our sustainability issues across our value chain.

4.0 Objectives

4.1 Renewable Energy Initiatives

  • We commit to transitioning static billboards to solar power within, beginning with trials of Philips solar-powered lighting at two static billboard locations and NGEOS lighting on a site in Lower Hutt prior to end of 2024.
  • As part of our energy strategy, we are considering solutions around switching power supply to Ecotricity.
    New Zealand’s only certified carbon-neutral electricity provider –  Waiting on confirmation from other suppliers (November 2024)

4.2 Waste Reduction and Recycling

  • We commit to recycling billboard skins through partnerships that repurpose them into bags, furniture, and other products, reducing landfill waste.
  • Office waste such as paper, plastics, and e-waste will be properly recycled, and we will implement a digital-first policy to reduce paper usage.

4.3 Resource Efficiency

  • We will use energy-efficient lighting and train staff on energy management within the office to reduce our power consumption by 15% by the end of 2025.

4.4 Carbon Emission Offsetting and Transportation

  • We encourage staff to use alternative methods of transportation, such as carpooling, biking, or public transport.
  • We will implement a carbon emissions offset program for all business travel by end of 2025.

4.5 Sustainable Procurement

  • We commit to working with suppliers who align with our environmental values, focusing on renewable energy and recycled materials.

4.6 Policy Review and Stakeholder Engagement

  • This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it meets our environmental goals and aligns with best practices.

5.0 Key Performance Indicators

5.1 We aim to convert 30 static billboards to solar power by end of 2025.

5.2 We commit to reducing office power usage by 15%, switch to a 100% renewable provider for power and implement energy-efficient practices by 2025.

5.3 We aim to decrease office paper use by 90% by mid-2025 through digital processes.

5.4 We will ensure 90% of retired billboard skins are repurposed or recycled by 2025.
